Transmission jack for work at the heart of the vehicle

Often, a lifting platform or similar is already sufficient to enable and facilitate the most common work on a vehicle: repairs and maintenance on the bodywork are done quickly and the skilled worker is spared physical strain. Sometimes, however, this alone is not enough and you have to get to the heart of the vehicle: the engine or the transmission. Sensitive, large and heavy ? when working on the engine you have to be particularly careful. If something goes wrong here, the purchase costs of a new model are very high. With the help of a gearbox jack, this can be remedied: It provides an important support when removing the gearbox and facilitates subsequent repairs.

Find the right tool

If you want to set a professional foundation, you not only need extensive and in-depth knowledge about the vehicles, but also just as much expertise about the tool. Which one is best suited for which application? What distinguishes high-quality tools? Which tools are absolutely necessary? We will be pleased to support you in making the right choice. Here we would like to concentrate on the topic of gear jacks. If you still have unanswered questions or are unsure at the end of the day, please contact us ? we will also guide you through the last step towards your new gear jack. And if you want to get to grips with other workshop technology, we will of course help you there as well.

Functionality of an engine jack

In terms of how it works, the gear jack can be compared wonderfully with a motor crane: The stable base frame is formed by supporting foot struts - usually six in number - on rollers. These provide the necessary flexibility of the gear jack. At the head of the motor jack you will find a mounted chain, which makes an important contribution when removing the motor: Directly above the engine compartment ? and thus above the engine ? the end is guided around the engine. If you then activate the hydraulic lifting effect, the engine is removed from the vehicle´s engine compartment without damage.

However, before you start removing the engine, you should remember to make all the necessary preparations: For example, is the fastening screw in the engine compartment loosened? If not, the transmission jack and the engine or transmission can be seriously damaged.

Possibilities of a transmission jack

The gear jack is highly flexible thanks to its possible height adjustment. This allows it to be individually adapted to the height of each vehicle. Once the gearbox or the engine has been safely removed from the vehicle, you can carry out all work directly on the engine with the help of the jack ? without first having to remove the components completely. This function offers a wide range of possible applications for the engine lifter that go beyond the classic use in professional workshops. For the following areas of vehicle production, vehicle maintenance and vehicle repair, the transmission jack is therefore a very useful aid:

  • in workshops
  • in service and test stations
  • for hobbyists for maintenance, repair or conversion
  • in tuning workshops (private and commercial)

Making the right decision

The variety of applications, different brands and other factors have led to a huge selection of gear jacks on the market. However, not every gear jack is suitable for your application ? both in terms of quality and function. Therefore, you should deal sufficiently with the different models in advance. If you want to benefit from your engine jack for a long time, the cost factor should be of secondary importance. It is more important to answer the following questions:

  • How high should the maximum load be?
  • What height should the transmission jack be able to reach?
  • For which types of vehicles can it be used?
  • Do you prefer a classic or hydraulic jack?

In the RP-TOOLS online shop for workshop equipment we have already made an important pre-selection for you regarding quality. We offer you high-quality products at fair prices. And you don´t have to worry about whether your gear jack gives up the ghost too quickly or has other defects that could endanger safety. You can also obtain important accessories from us.
